PROJECT SUPPORT

See below what some of the supporters are saying about the proposed lake.

I have been following the plans for the "mini Grand Lake" idea. I think it is a wonderful project. I believe this would be a great economic plus for the region. - Richard B.

I wanted to see if Mike Loveland would be interested in speaking about this project at a luncheon of East YMCA Men's Club members. The club is about 40 strong and meets for Monday lunches at the Scotch & Sirloin. I'm excited about this project and would like to help promote it to the community. - Tim S.

I think that this is the most exciting project to come to south-central Kansas in decades. I have been traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks for over 20 years and have spent many thousands of dollars in Missouri over the years. I am excited by the prospect of being able to have a lake front home within about an hour of Wichita. I already own a speed boat and would probably leave it there year round. Get it serviced there and stored there in the winter. All dollars that will be spent locally. Put me down for a lot on the lake when it becomes a reality. Good Luck and I will continue top support your efforts. - Daryl C.

Great project....I'm in, please let me know what I can do to help out! - Pat A.

I am interested in this project. I think it was tremendous benefits for the region. How would I purchase lakefront property? – Jeff Z.

What a great idea----We had a lake house on the Council Grove city lake, and we had the time of our lives while we had it-- our kids will never forget that family time together----I think the people of Council Grove would certainly sing the praises of having the added revenue that the "lake people" bring into the community. It was fantastic to get in the car and be at the lake in about an hour and a half rather than the 5 or 6 hours to the Ozarks or Table Rock. I would certainly back this project 100% and I think you're doing a great job....Keep up the good work---and good luck getting the project off the ground. – Tom B.

I think it would be a wonderful addition to south-central Kansas. Thank you for having the vision and I hope you gain the support needed. – Pat G.

I think a lake of this magnitude and that close to Wichita is a great idea. – Larry W.

You gave a great presentation. I'll be sure to pass along this web address so people can see what a great idea this is. – Shane D.

Thanks for the excellent presentation. I want to support you in any way that I can. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do before it is ready to receive supportive responses. – Jim G.

Great site and thanks for the directions. I will pursue the circle my wife and I inhabit to get more of a feel (mostly boomers). Also, I am planning a short jaunt with an adventuresome brother in law who has canoed Grouse Creek many times. – A. B.

Keep me posted, this beats the 3-5 hr. drive to Grand Lake or Lake of The Ozark's. – Keith B.

I have some questions about a lake that allows development such as Grand Lake. Is that lake controlled by a Port Authority, if so, can you give me contacts on the Port Authority so I can follow-up with my own questions. Are there any other lakes, possible smaller lakes in the Midwest you could direct me to that would resemble this project. This can't be a new idea, there must be examples of successes that you can point or that the feasibility study will leverage. What is your time frame for getting a study started and completed? Sorry for so many questions, but large project and I want to be informed. – Mark H.

Hello, I'm a 33-year old male who loves the water. I take many trips a year to Table Rock Lake, and to Branson. The ONE and ONLY lake that I will go to in this area is Marion Reservoir in Marion County as I really hate ALL the other lakes in this area. I hope and dream of having a place to call home on a lake someday. My problem is where? Not to be rude but I'm way to young to move away to a place like Branson even though I love it there. Marion Reservoir which I really do like and enjoy will not even let me leave my 30 foot travel trailer in one spot for more then a few days at a time. My dream is to have a lake front property with a house or even a nice mobile home on it so I could have a place to spend the weekends. To keep my home and my job in Wichita and to be able to have a lake home that I could get to in a mater of time with out driving for hours was a dream that would never come true. Now I hear about this Lake Project, so maybe my dream will come true. Please add my name to the list of voters who want this lake to happen. I will be the first one to buy some land. – Billy C.

Hope this happens, not enough lakes in Kansas. I do agree that traveling to surrounding states for great lake adventures can be a nightmare and look forward to an alternative. I hunt around this projected lake area and would look forward to a better habitat. Good luck in the endeavor. – Mike P.

In the proposed Lake area, there presently is the historic Esch's Spur triple-arch stone bridge. Is there any way that bridge could be disassembled and moved and reassembled for preservation, or will it be lost? It is on the lower end of Grouse Creek. – Richard H.

I am writing to say that I am excited about what I have been hearing. I currently live in Wichita and I usually go to Kaw Lake in Oklahoma to avoid all the crowds that have appeared in Cheney Lake in the last few years. If this proposed lake was to be built, I know, I would be very interested in purchasing some land and building myself a house there. If you have some sort of News Letter that goes out about this project, I would love to get on the list, so that I could be kept up to date on the happenings. Also, is there any proposed idea of a projected start/finish date if this were to become a reality? – Brian G.

I would be 100% in support for this lake for as me and all of my friends boat in other states. I want to retire on a lake and have again been looking at other lakes out of state. – Eric S.

It sounds like a great idea. I understand how some feel that it would ruin what they have worked so hard for. The immediate effects will hurt for some time. But the long-term gains I believe will benefit Cowley County and the surrounding areas. Why not have a beautiful lake and create a place here for people to come rather than have everyone leaving to go on vacation and take their money elsewhere. – Sean M.

Please keep me posted up on the progress and whom I should write to inform we need their support for this project. Thanks and The Best of Luck. – Bob S.

This project will affect many farmers and ranchers in the local area. However I agree that the long-term benefit for the state and especially surrounding counties will offset that many times over. Kansas needs a lake where small home sites and tourist activities can be obtained. The water issues that I have heard of in the area can also be addressed. I am in full support of this project. – Anonymous by Request

This sounds like a great idea. – Greg S.

I am very impressed with your web site and more so with your idea. You have done an excellent job of proposing an idea and trying to account for all factors involved. As a person who frequents the Lake of the Ozarks I can attest to the number of people who seek retirement and vacation homes in that area from KS. Not to mention the economic impact they create with tourism as well property taxes on boats etc. This sounds like an interesting project and I would be interested in receiving additional information in the future. – Craig D.

Dexter will become the next Branson MO. - David H.

Flint Hills lake will be win-win for everyone. Jobs, water supply, tourism.Would suggest that you partner with Walnut Valley Festivals, Wheatland Festival, and other major draws. Flint Hills lake has the potential to be
the premier vacation spot in Kansas. - Doug H.

Kansans think small, which is why we are small. It is terribly important to continue to build things that will attract people to Kansas and keep people here. The reason people go there [other regional lake developments] is there are no big private lakes here you can build on and do all the things you do at a lake. You will never build a building, a shopping center, a lake, a new golf course or airport without somebody being unhappy about it. If you always try to satisfy the minority, you'll never progress. - Tom D.

I've been to Lake of the Ozarks and Grand Lake and looked at what's happened there. I can see the potential for something like that to happen here over the long course of time. - Bill D.

What is being proposed will be a good draw and a good base. - Barbara C.

It's potentially a great tourism draw for our region. Part of promoting Wichita is not just promoting our city but the state and the region as well. - Carey W.

I used to work with a couple of people who transferred to Wichita from Oklahoma City and their biggest complaint about living here was the lack of recreational water in the area. This one drawback eventually played a part in their returning to Oklahoma. I am very excited by the economic & recreational visions expressed on this website and look forward to witnessing them become reality. - Steve S.
